the summer ends: Michael Cera Palin + Pennwood Rd. + Ruined + Riot but cute + tba

10. Oktober @ 20:00 - 23:30
CoreChaos presents:

Michael Cera Palin (Emotive indie-punk, Atlanta)
Michael Cera Palin are an emotive indie-punk trio from Atlanta, GA. The band are noted for consciously vulnerable lyrics, a cathartically catchy sound, and an impassioned live show, all forged through a decade of cutting teeth in the genre-fluid arts landscape of their home. MCP released two EPs from 2015-2018 before a premature hiatus. After derailed ambitions for their 2020 return (now to a notably larger listenership than they had previously left behind), the band retreated from the social dimension of the community to begin carving their new chapter, and finding a voice of their own. They then released 2 singles, before starting toward an accelerating tour ethic since 2022, diligently assuring fans along the way that a debut full-length album would be with them in due time. Whether owed to or despite their limited output, Michael Cera Palin’s work continues to accrue fervent support, with mounting anticipation of their new material.

Pennwood Rd. (Midwest-Emo, Leipzig)
In spring 2024, the international quartet from Chile, Sweden, Latvia, and Germany comes together in Leipzig. Inspired by the Midwest emo sound of the ’90s, the four members combine their diverse musical backgrounds and bring the genre’s DIY ethic into the present. Their debut EP “I Won’t a Friend” was released in June 2025 and deals, among other things, with processing childhood experiences and growing up. That same year, the band plays two support shows for Weatherday and performs at the inaugural Farewell Youth Fest.
Since the production of the EP, their sound has noticeably evolved – the newer songs are more playful, heavier, and lean further into screamo.

Ruined (Emopunk, Schweiz)
Ruined are an emo punk band from all over Switzerland. The band was started as a solo project by Gian in 2019 with the release of the first self-titled EP and was then turned into an actual band in early 2020. Ruined plays music in the vein of Title Fight, Basement and early Turnover, but also takes influence from hardcore and punk, where all the members originally come from. All of this happened right before the start of the pandemic, but these circumstances did not stop the band from writing lots of music and eventually releasing two EPs in 2020, one of which was recorded, mixed and mastered in Leeds at the Stationhouse Studio. Over the course of 2021, Ruined were able to self-record their first album “everything is” which was released in March of 2022, featuring some of the first Ruined songs from before the band was actually formed as well as songs written more recently. The album shows how the band was able to grow and find their own sound while still staying true to their influences.

Riot but cute (Emo, Dortmund)
A Call to Come Together. We believe in a world where no one has to be alone — shaped by vulnerability, honesty, and solidarity, not just among friends, but as human beings. Our music connects extremes, drawing from a wide range of emotions. It clouds and embraces, pushes you to the edge and beyond, only to catch you at the very last moment. With great attention to detail, we create a space full of vivid moments, dreams, despair, and hope. Expressive and immersive, our live shows awaken both us and the audience from the numbness of everyday life.
Together with everyone in the room, we build a genuine sense of connection, breaking down the distance between stage and crowd. The effects of today’s social media are making us sick. We want to break free from apathy. Our platform is meant to be a safe space for exchange and connection — a call to truly experience.
Let’s break out of isolation — together.

“The Summer Ends” is a (fAkE) Emo Festival dedicated to every (fAkE) Emo’s favourite season – and the sister event to our beautifully received (rEaL) Emo Festival, “Rites of Spring“. An outlet dedicated to all of the lovely, off-kilter interpretations of emo music!

It’s another one-day celebration, inspired by Emo music’s most iconic meme – and all of its brilliant spin-offs.

Say it loud and proud as we defy all rEaL eMo expectations and take things with a pinch of salt:

„FAKE REAL EMO (non-hardcore music that gets considered „real emo“ by pretentious middle class dorks who have no clue. Usually indie rock, math rock, or post rock that is influenced by the instrumentation, composition, and/or dynamics of emo; from The Van Pelt and Boys Life to Penfold and Boilermaker to Mock Orange and No Knife to empire! empire! and My Heart to Joy to Hightide Hotel and Oso Oso. Post-emotional hardcore punk rock music)“
„REAL FAKE EMO (non-hardcore music that has just as much influence from emo as FAKE REAL emo, but because it’s not sad, mellow, and somber [cough or not rock music] is refuted as „emo“ by most twinkle dorks. Usually post-hardcore, alternative rock, or melodic hardcore/pop punk that takes from all the same places as indiemo; from Samiam and Trusty to Sense Field and Grade to Seaweed and Kill Holiday to The Movielife and Boys Night Out to Title Fight and Polar Bear Club to Self Defense Family and Narrow Head. Post-emotional hardcore punk rock and „emo-adjacent“ [meaning, diy bands who played shows with emo bands in the underground] music).“
